Illegal Is Illegal: Law, Order, and Compassion
Illegal Is Illegal: Law, Order, and Compassion
Immigration is often discussed emotionally, but Christians must speak clearly and truthfully.
Illegal immigration is exactly that—illegal. That does not make immigrants enemies, but it does mean the law is being violated.
Scripture teaches in Romans 13:1:
“The powers that be are ordained of God.”
Government has a God-given responsibility to enforce the law, including immigration law. Agencies tasked with enforcement are fulfilling that responsibility when they act lawfully and appropriately.
At the same time, legal immigration should always be welcomed. Those who enter the country lawfully, work honorably, and follow the process contribute to the strength of the nation.
It must also be stated plainly: any criminal behavior—whether committed by a citizen, a legal immigrant, or an illegal immigrant—should be prosecuted fully and fairly under the law, whether in Minnesota, South Carolina, or anywhere else.
Proverbs 14:34 reminds us:
“Righteousness exalteth a nation.”
Righteousness includes justice, order, and equal accountability.
If God’s people don’t uphold both compassion and the rule of law, who will?
How about you?
